Since the dawn of time, people have managed to make the most of the AlUla soil. The sustainable development and economic revitalization goals for the oasis require an understanding of the biological composition and the way in which the various types of soil function. This is the mission of the SoFunLand project team, led by the Afalula Agriculture division: It tracks the presence of living material in the ground, from microorganisms to animals, including plants and mushrooms, to analyze the health of the soil and evaluate its fertility. Understanding the way that plants in the region thrive provides guidelines for sustainable management as well as tools for ecological restoration.
