The excitement surrounding the development of the oasis brought the idea of wedding preparations to Sofiane Si Merabet’s mind (It’s not early anymore). “It's as if we were preparing for AlUla and the world to unite,” emphasized Jean-François Charnier, referring to the Franco-Algerian artist’s project. After six weeks of trying, he managed to persuade Nujood, the only wedding singer (tagaga) in AlUla, to be filmed as part of the piece. A reluctant participant at first, she eventually became a tremendous promoter for the piece, even going so far as volunteering to sing in front of forty people at the inauguration. “This reminded the local population of the traditional songs of the oasis, which we’d never had access to before, unless you were an anthropologist, perhaps,” Arnaud Morand, Head of Innovation & Creation at Afalula, reports.
