Located at the center of Beijing's Forbidden City, the Imperial Palace Museum (or Palace Museum) first opened its doors in 1925.

The complex of 980 buildings, built between 1406 and 1420 over 72 hectares, served as the residence of the Emperor for 5 centuries.

It houses a collection of more than 1.8 million works of art dating mainly from the Ming and Qing dynasties. With 17 million visitors in 2018, the Palace Museum is certainly the busiest museum in the world.
