Located 250 km south of AIUla, the Khaybar oasis is home to one of the richest concentrations of archaeological remains on the entire peninsula. Launched in 2020, the Khaybar Longue Durée Project (KLDAP) undertook the first mapping of this major site, while retracing the stages of a continuous human presence, from Prehistory to the present day, in keeping with its environmental context. Important discoveries also include a monumental 15 km long rampart from the pre-Islamic era and, more recently, a walled settlement from the Bronze Age. An ambitious new program, the Islamic Khaybar Archaeological Project (IKAP), dedicated to the Islamic occupation in the Khaybar oasis, was launched in the fall of 2024.
