(1) Telemetric environmental monitoring system.
In 2023, 14 indicators were used to evaluate the impact of cultural activity in AlUla. They focus on heritage conservation (protected monuments, objects added to collections, sites open to the public, etc.), culture and the arts (activated infrastructure, scientific publications and training) and visitor experience (event participation, satisfaction).
Heritage sites are also subject to environmental monitoring (TEMS system(1)), while museums measure their CO₂ emissions, waste management and energy efficiency. Going forward, new indicators will enrich this system to more precisely reflect the environmental impact of cultural activities.
