The first volume of the Atlas of Lichens of AlUla and Khaybar is the result of the lichen survey conducted by the BIOPOLIS, commissioned and supervised by teams from the French Agency for AlUla Development (AFALULA) and the Royal Commission for AlUla (RCU).

The 100-page volume, with texts by Joana Marques and illustrations by Lara Mendes, presents twenty species selected from over a hundred taxa recorded during the survey.

Each species is presented through a watercolor illustration, an accessible description, a map indicating its known distribution based on observations made, and a fact sheet.

An illustrated glossary also introduces the main lichen growth forms: crustose, closely attached to the rock or other substrate; foliose, with lobes resembling small leaves; fruticose, upright or pendulous, forming small shrubby or filamentous structures; and squamulose, composed of small scales which are the most widespread form in deserts.
