The first edition of the AlUla Citrus Festival was held from January 7 to 17, 2022. Retracing 2,000 years of history and culture in the oasis, the event brought together chefs from around the world with local producers, and brought visitors together for gastronomic, educational, and artistic activities.
The citrus industry represents a major opportunity for developing the AlUla region, with its traditional know-how and exceptional native varieties of over 200,000 fruit trees. Eco-tourism and production exports will thus feed regional growth and improve the quality of life of the people living there.
After the first event in 2020, unprecedented in the Middle East, the EcoTrail took place on March 18 and 19, 2022 in the dreamy landscapes of AlUla, welcoming runners from around the world. The discovery and preservation of the environment are at the heart of this event, a strong commitment that is especially meaningful in this region.
Seven race courses, including one reserved for children, allowed participants to explore the desert from a unique angle, cementing the Arabian Peninsula's status as a leading sports destination.

15 students have been selected to pioneer this international project in January 2022. The FERRANDI Paris School will ensure that the highest standards of quality are met on the ground to make AlUla an unmissable “lifestyle” destination.
A memorandum of agreement signed with Dassault Systèmes during President Emmanuel Macron’s visit to Saudi Arabia will enable the Kingdom to draw on the latest innovations in smart land management from the French specialist software champion.
A digital twin of the AlUla region will be designed via the 3DEXPERIENCE platform, centralizing and contextualizing all the data needed to manage the strategic stages of the site's transformation: from the design to supervising the renovation, building construction, service networks, etc., Dassault Systèmes is emerging as a structural player in AlUla's economic development and digital transformation, and is planning an incubation program to further engage the local population.

The Architectural Digest (AD) magazine honored Habitas AlUla with the Hotel Project of the Year Award in December 2021. Nestled between the monumental rocks of the Ashar Valley, a series of independent rooms linked by a sandy path offer guests a sense of immersion and change of scenery.
The hotel was designed with a real commitment to eco-responsibility. Ethically sourced natural materials and 3D-printed modular construction, with low environmental impact, ensure the preservation of the local ecosystem. Habitas is therefore helping to redefine high-end tourism, which places the experience of the landscape at the heart of the journey.

During the visit of the French President Emmanuel Macron to Jeddah, Saudi Arabia, on 4 December 2021, an intergovernmental agreement was signed between the two countries for the creation of a reference cultural institution, Villa Hegra, in AlUla.
This place, inspired by the most prestigious French villas, will engage in an artistic dialogue between France and Saudi Arabia and, more broadly, between European and Arab cultures. The Villa Hegra aims to become a hothouse of artists and creators that will be structured around several complementary cultural spaces. A meeting place between the local community and a global audience, it will shine a light on the emerging art scene of all countries.
