IN BRIEF

NEWS

As an oasis at the crossroads of continents on the Incense Road, 3,000 years ago, AlUla is still today home to an excellent citrus industry, ideal for the creation of perfumes and fragrances.

It is perhaps unsurprising then that ISIPCA (a French School of Advanced Studies in Perfumery), renowned for its expertise throughout the perfume industry, has hosted introductory perfumery workshops for the residents of AlUla. Nearly 300 participants studied several different aspects of this ancestral art, including “Arabic Scents”, “Create Your Perfume”, “Incense Road” and “Eau fraîche Agrume”.

From June 10 to 13, 14 guides and rangers received training on how to welcome visitors with disabilities. Delivered by Universcience (a French institution for scientific culture), this program helped raise awareness among the guides about different types of disabilities, including reduced mobility, autism, visual impairment and deafness. They also learned to adapt their speech and gestures to these different audiences. The initiative aims to improve the visitor experience by making it more inclusive and immersive.

INCLUSIVE AND WELCOMING

In Paris, from June 27-29, 2024, the INHA (National Institute of Art History) hosted the 57th annual Seminar for Arabian Studies. Each year, this unique event presents academic research on the Arabian Peninsula across various disciplines, including archaeology, epigraphy, languages, literature and culture. Over three days, the co-directors of the Khaybar, Old Town, Dadan and Oasis missions, from AlUla, presented the results of five years of research to an audience of specialists.

“Forever Revitalising”, the first international brand campaign for AlUla was launched in Paris last spring. To celebrate this occasion, 300 guests from the media, tourism and culture sectors were invited to the Petit Palais for an exceptional opening evening.

From September 11-13, at the invitation of the Hall Haus collective, Design Space AlUla took over the Lafayette Anticipations agora for a unique exhibition and a series of captivating conversations as part of Paris Design Week. This initiative highlighted the works of AlUla's first design residency, launched in 2023, thanks to the collaboration between Arts AlUla and the French Agency for AlUla Development. Drawing on the expertise of French artisans, designers, Leen Ajlan, Leo Orta, and Hall Haus reinvented AlUla-made prototypes.
